Favorite freebie tool of the moment – Screenr

I recently read a blog post via Social Media Examiner that listed 22 up and coming (yep TWENTY-TWO) online tech tools that could be used for business productivity.   I personally like smaller bits so I tried a few out and my favorite of the moment is Screenr.

Screenr is a free tool that allows you to capture your online screen movements, record them into a video and share them with others.  I used it recently when a client had a question about inserting and manipulating an image.  It didn’t make sense for them to pay me a full consult hour to come to their office for such a small question – and many are hesitant to allow desktop sharing.  It can get frustrating to “blindly” try and guide someone over the phone when you can never tell exactly what they are looking at.

So Screenr to the rescue.  I recorded my screen actions step by step to give this client their own specific tutorial on their specific question.  I then saved the recording and sent her the link.   It took all of 10 minutes to record and send.    With the recording – the client can stop and pause when needed and go at their own pace – versus the super speed language I have been told I sometimes speak in.

What are your thoughts?  How could you use Screenr?  Tip:  You will want to get a microphone for your desktop if you don’t have one.  Makes the tutorial much nicer.

  1. You’re so clever! What a great use for a new tool. I could see myself using it to record a coaching interaction to post on my web site, so folks who are unsure about what a coaching session entails could have a sneak peek.

    • Great idea – you could also post to FB and twitter. When you publish a video it does try to automatically post to Twitter – but you can select that you will post later yourself if you’re not ready to share with the world yet.
